Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea)

Also called the Sacred Blue Lily of the Nile because it was considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians. Since it is of the genus nymphaea, it is actually a water lily not a lotus.

However, both lotuses and lilies contain similar alkaloids, nuciferine and aporphine, and the Blue Lily is the strongest and thus most sought after variety.

The effects are mild sedation and a very pleasant ecstasy-like sensual feeling, which makes it great as an aphrodisiac, especially for women. The petals can be smoked (e.g. instead of tobacco) or brewed in a tea (about 15 mins) or in wine (soak for a few hours).
